Flowy, Floral, Flirty: Oaks Day

Disclaimer: this is what I originally planned to wear to the Oaks, but the weather is going to be cold. So, I had to regroup and come up with something warmer to wear. However I worked so hard to make this outfit perfect it deserved its own blog post. Am I attending a Tea Party or off to the Derby? One might never know, but what I do know is this adorable ruffled maxi is the absolute bees knees. Floral is hot, hot, hot for spring (as per usual) and I love it. I instantly spotted this dress in the window of Francesca’s. I had that confessions of a shopaholic moment when the green scarf speaks to her (Rebecca Bloomwood) from the window. Yes, that was me falling in love with this dress from afar. So, I obvi had to try it on, and how could I not fall even more in love with this girly little number. It had to come home with me. At the time I really didn’t have an occasion to wear it, but it could be worn in a multitude of ways for multiple events. I knew I wouldn’t have a problem finding something to wear it to.

I added the belt because the dress was fairly plain for an event of that magnitude. I found the jeweled belt that matched perfectly at express. Adding a belt (most of the time) can easily make an outfit look dressier than it is alone. If I think an outfit is missing something I usually try adding some accessories (starting with a belt) to see if the puzzle pieces fit together. Making an outfit complete is all in the little details.

Nude pumps basically go with anything, and Y’all already know gold is my neutral. Adding a metallic also dresses things up as well. If you feel like you’re underdressed try adding some metallic shoes, or a metallic clutch like I did here.

All in all I worked really hard for this outfit to be perfected, and I’m sad I don’t get to wear it to the oaks. That is just what you get for trying to plan around weather here in the great state of KY. It’s never cooperative. It could be raining and forty degrees one day, and eighty degrees the next. You just never know. I do know I will find an occasion to wear this dress to someday.

Get the deets at the bottom. XOXO
